Craig Wood   Dip. CPT, AACS

I am a freelance programmer and web developer, operating through my limited company, Rijidij Ltd. (UK)
For more detail about my skills and previous projects, please view my CV.

The bulk of my considerable experience is in the analysis, design, and development of industrial and financial applications, using languages such as C/C++ and Visual Basic.
More recently (the past few years), I have been involved in the design and construction of web sites and e-commerce applications. Projects like these are a bit more "right-brain", allowing me to exercise my more artistic talents.

My introduction to web programming came as part of a team who developed several major intranet web applications for one of the largest financial institutions in the country. These applications were only required to operate under a single browser that the company had adopted as its standard (No prizes for guessing which one...). So, when I eventually started to build public sites, it came as quite a shock to discover the appalling disparities between browsers, and the lack of standards being applied in general web development.

Fortunately, there are those who are fighting the good fight for the poor, over-stretched, web developer:
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
   The Web Standards Project (WaSP)
   A List Apart
To name but a few...
By following these links, you will find tools, papers, and a great many articles supporting the use of standards in web content, convincing arguments for separating style from content, and explanations of why CSS is good, and tables not so good, etc.

All Rijidij web pages are lovingly hand-crafted in valid xHTML and CSS, using the brilliant jEdit - Open Source Programmer's Text Editor.
Images are created/manipulated using The GIMP, and PHP is my server-script of choice.
