For 2 weeks over Jan-Feb 2004, I went on a hang gliding holiday to Lanzarote.
Here are a few photos from my trip.

- Afternoon flight at Famara
I arrived at Arrecife airport about lunchtime and was out, flying, that same afternoon!
- Outclimbing the paragliders at Famara
I have some other photos of me scratching about at the bottom of this ridge. But before long, I was well above the paragliders.
- High above #1 launch
Yet another photo of that first afternoon's flight. I had to land soon because it was getting dark!
- Above the bowl at Mirador
This is the most stunning location I have ever flown. I didn't get many aerial photos because most of the time I had my hands full just flying. But I'm glad I got this one!
Oh, and that small brown smudge just out from the crack running across the right-hand side of the ridge... That's the landing area!
- The old takeoff ramp at Famara
It's a bit scary standing here without a glider! The light coloured patch beside the road in the top left is the "official" landing area.
- Early morning flight in the Calima at Mácher
The
Calima is a dust and sand cloud that blows in from Africa. It can hang around for days. This was an early morning flight, before the conditions got too rough.
- Afternoon takeoff at Mácher
For the last couple of days the wind was generally too strong for flying. But in the afternoon it would ease off a enough to allow a short flight before dark.
- Evening flight at Mácher
That's me, at the top of the picture (but not necessarily top of the stack...). Notice the Calima is still hanging about.
